St Ives is famous for its beautiful and ever-changing light. For a photographer, it's torture; the shifting patterns of colour and illumination are so hard to capture that in the search to represent how they feel rather than how they look, one is tempted (as were so many St Ives artists) to move towards abstraction. In fact, the more primitive the camera, the better the results in some ways since very poor cameras (such as the iPhone used for some of these and the Panasonic FZ8 used for the last one) tend to do the abstraction for you!
